CYCLING: GARRY Brown won a thrilling indoor title under the Weaver Valley CC flag.
Brown emerged into the final night of an eight-week ACT League series at the Manchester Velodrome, neck-and-neck with Mancunian Rob Duckworth.
In the final race, which decided the trophy, Brown was victorious, but it was a nervous night all round.
In the 12-lap scratch race, Brown was fourth and Duckworth the winner, forging ahead by three points.
But then Brown fought back to win the 'Devil take the hindmost' event, to pull level overall with Duckworth.
The championship rode on the 12-lap course de primes and Brown attacked on the second lap, staying clear for the next three laps to gain 1½ points.
Duckworth recovered a half-point but Brown finished a point ahead and as overall winner.
Rob Dacey was second in his category. Graham Gregory forced his way into the top 10 and Dennis Hornby and Dave Wallace also competed.
The indoor competitions resume in the new year.
Sunday's club run is on off-road and mountain bikes to the Summer Trees cafe, Kelsall.
Monday is club night at Moss Farm Social Club and newcomers are welcome to both events.
