MOTOR SPORT: BRAVE Craig Beggs is already looking forward to the next round of the Virgin Mobile Yamaha R6 Cup, despite crashing out after just half a lap at Oulton Park.
The technical support engineer for Bentley Motors has showed a competitive edge in the opening rounds of the one-make series.
He finished 19th at Brands Hatch in round one, 16th in round two at Thruxton and notched championship points through his 12th position at Mallory Park.
But the recent round four at Oulton Park did not go to plan. Craig, who lives at Wistaston, had secured his best qualifying position of the season and was confident of his first national top-10 finish when starting on the grid in 16th.
But a short downpour during the warm-up race made conditions difficult. Undeterred, the 22-year-old made a good start and stormed into 12th place. But when a rider in the leading pack lost control, he took evasive action and crashed out.
Craig said: 'It was always going to be a bit hectic on the first lap after the shower, but I never thought my race could be over after only half a lap!
'But I am not badly injured and there is still plenty of the season left to make amends. I thought this year was going to be hard and the pace in the series is quicker than it's ever
been. But I am learning all the time and I am happy with the way things are going at the moment. I can't wait to get out there again.'
Craig will be in action at the Aintree Motorcycle Club Races on Saturday, and will contest the next round of the Virgin Mobile Cup at the Croft circuit on June 4 and 5.
He would like to thank Maclellan Int, Envirostrip UK and Hein Gericke for their support this season. Anyone interested in supporting Craig is asked to ring 07708 198880.
