ROB Denny was in great form in Sunday’s open match at Hampton Springs Fishery.
Drawn on peg 30 of Long Island and opting to fish the margins with corn for carp weighing up to 5lb, the Ellesmere Port ace bagged 75lb 14oz to finish just a pound behind the eventual winner.
Ellesmere Port anglers Dave Grimes and Jason Connor put in great performances in the Wirral Borough AC match at Conwy Fishery at the weekend.
Grimes used a mixture of pellet and paste on the deck at 10m for a 47lb 12oz bag of carp, chub and good roach to take second place.
Despite losing a lot of fish around the back of an adjacent island to his peg, Connor finished third. With 6mm pellet at 12m to the island, he tempted 45lb 8oz.
Ellesmere Port’s Graham Lewis just missed out on booking his place in this year’s Fish ‘O’ Mania final.
The qualification match was staged at Lake View Fishery in Leicestershire and proved to be a close affair, with Lewis finishing sixth on the day with 24 carp on the pole with bread and corn for 50lb.
Dave Allen, with just 15lb 8oz of three carp, tench, bream and roach that fell to maggot, won the Ellesmere Port AC match on the New Pool at Tarvin Sands Fishery on Sunday.
Simon Andrews was second with 8lb of roach with caster, and Steve Bithall third with similar fish for 6lb 12oz.
