TATTENHALL angler Peter Stoddart claimed he had “never had a day so good in over 50 years of fishing” following a fan- tastic catch at Cheshire Fishing.

Stoddart fished pool three this week, bagging more than 200lbs of carp weighing up to 18lbs taken on meat over micro-pellet.

Pulford’s Vernon Langrish had a great session on pool two, taking 15 carp between 2lbs and 18lbs, and 40 skimmers of up to 8oz for a final weight of 90lbs.

There have been some super trout caught at the fishery this week as well. Alan Pike of Tattenhall landed a superb 12lbs rainbow using a Montana on pool one.

The second match of the North Wales Winter League took place on Sunday at Hampton Springs Fishery. Chester angler Neil Faulkner of Chester Tackle Locker, drawn on peg 30 of Long Island, ran in third with 59lbs 10oz. After two matches, Saints and Chester Tackle Locker share first place in the table.

Hampton Springs also hosted the Chester-based Thurs- day Rovers match this week on Long Island and Meadow pools. Top rod on the day was Andy Peate with a fine 76lbs of carp taken down the edge of peg 49 of Long Island.

Ellesmere Port AC held their match on the Red Lion section of the Weaver at Winsford on Sunday.

Guest angler John Croft, from Chester, had a good match, finishing third with 5lbs 13oz of roach and perch, followed by Newton’s Steve Andrews in fourth with a final weight of 5lbs 3oz.

Steve Openshaw put in a good performance in the Thursday open at Lingmere, although the top weights were quite low.

He won with 28lbs of carp from peg 19. Chris Cook of Chester was second from peg seven using pellet and maggot weighing in 22lbs 2oz.
