CHESTER Tackle Locker have been installed as favourites to win the Stapeley, Crewe and District League after a fine performance on the Trent and Mersey Canal's Rookery Bridge section.
They finished joint first to increase their overall lead thanks to efforts from Phil Weaver (4-5-6), Mike Beaumont (2-10-12) and Neil Faulkner (2-10-4).
The Willaston team remain in the bottom half of the league despite ending the day in sixth place after Keith Wilson finished second individually with 11-14-0, supported by Ray Jackson (2-3-12) and Gordon Griffiths (1-15-0).
Alan Jones emerged victorious from the Tuesday Rovers AC match, fished on the rock pool at Hampton Springs Fishery.
He put 41-0-0 of carp on the scales to beat Bob Adamson on 39-8-0 and Gary Vincent on 37-0-0.
Alan Dewhurst topped the Saturday match at Lingmere Fishery with a carp and barbel mix weighing 78-0-0. Closest to him was Steve Boyd with 40-4-0 and Steve Balson with 32-2-0.
Lingmere's Thursday match went to Balson with a mixed 46-8-0, followed by Bob Evans with 27-8-0 and Dave Lawrence with 25-0-0.
Rob Denny took 65-0-0 of barbel to win the Sunday open match at Hampton Springs Fishery's meadow pool.
Three carp gave Jeff Williams the win in Rake and Pikel AC's match at the Border Fishery. They weighed 12-10-0, greater than Brian Crawford's 7-12-0.
Andrew Griffiths eased home with 26-0-0 of carp in the St Theresa's AC match at Lloyd's Meadow Fishery. Bob Hughes took 12-0-0 and Keith Potts 8-4-0.
Rob White won the Piper AC match at the Border Fishery with 11-10-0, just beating Martin Berisford with 7-14-0 and Mike White with 6-11-0.
Stuart Coleclough claimed the Blacon Sports and Social Club AC match at Leeswood Fishery. Taking carp weighing 24-0-0, he defeated Fred Woods with 17-0-0 and Tony Buckley with 13-8-0.
Tarporley AC fished the Cotebrook's Little Mill pool and Roy Garton worked hard for his win with small roach and rudd weighing 5-15-0. Cliff Wakefield followed with 4-2-0 and Darren Davenport with 2-11-0.
Malpas AC fished club waters and Kevin Turner won through with 31-8-0 to beat David Jones with 29-14-0 and Alan Jones on 15-0-0.
* Following Chester City Council's decision to lease the town length of the River Dee to Prince Albert AC of Macclesfield, anglers must join the club to fish there.
Membership of the club costs £170 (£85 joining fee, £85 annual membership). There is a two-year waiting list for new members, who are allowed to fish the club's other waters free. No day tickets will be issued for the Chester water. See page six for more.
