OWNER Steve Openshaw showed that he knows his water and the way to fish it well by winning both open matches at Lingmere Fishery.
On Thursday, Openshaw took top spot by a good margin with a final weight of 95lbs 4oz. Drawn on peg 4, he fished a method feeder with corn taking a mixture of carp and barbel. Greasby’s Jamie Swain on peg 20, took 65lbs 12oz from peg 20 using banded pellet. Peg 13 gave Dave Woodworth third place with 49lbs 14oz of fish taken on expander pellet.
Twenty-two anglers competed in the Saturday Open at Leeswood. Openshaw bagged a mixture of carp, barbel and bream weighing 48lbs 14oz on pole and pellet for his second win of the week. Robbie Woods was his nearest rival, taking 34lbs on peg 5 with feeder and corn. Dave Woodworth again made one of the top spots with 32lbs 6oz from peg 29.
Lobol AC held the final of their knockout matches on their own Priory Pool, Bromborough, on Wednesday. Jim Edwards won the match with a mixed bag weighing in at 15lbs 6oz. Edwards used a variety of pellet and maggot, netting carp, tench and crucians. Sid Robinson took second place with a bag of skimmers, crucians and roach taken on pellet weighing 13lbs 11oz. Not so far behind in third was Barrie Carlson, who used pinkies and pellet for 12lbs 8oz of skimmers and roach.
Rivacre AC held their club match on the Arena lake, Cudmore Fisheries, on Sunday. Cudmore is to host the forthcoming Fish ‘O’ Mania final and a combination preparations at the fishery and hot, still weather conditions made it difficult for the 22 anglers involved. Jeff Grantham needed only 27lbs of carp to win. Second spot was taken by Ian Brocklehurst of Ellesmere Port with 23lbs and Billy Ore took third with 22lbs.
