RIVACRE AC members took to the banks of the Beech Road stretch on Bridgewater Canal on Sunday.
Some good bream and tench weighing up to 1lb 8oz made the difference as Harry Gittins finished top rod.
Harry, from Ellesmere Port, used pinkies to good effect, weighing in with exactly 7lbs.
Dave Grimes, also from Ellesmere Port, netted a mixed bag weighing 2lbs 12oz for second spot ahead of Eastham’s Billy Gore with 2lbs 6oz.
Using caster on the pole Steve Bithall was victorious in Ellesmere Port AC’s match on the Shropshire Union Canal at Pretty Bridge, Backford this weekend.
The Port angler caught a mixture of skimmers, roach and perch on caster on the pole to finish with a winning weight of 1lb 14oz 9d in a close encounter.
Ian Mayers, also from the Port, took 1lb 13oz 1d of skimmers and perch on a mixture of maggot and caster for second. A mixed bag of 1lb 12oz 4d taken on pinkies and caster gave Jimmy Crimes third on the day.
Windy conditions at Hampton Springs Fishery made life difficult for competitors in Cheshire Police AC match on Thursday. The Port’s Mark Greasley, drawn on peg 20 of the Meadow Pool, had to settle for fourth place.
Greasley took a 22lbs 6oz bag of barbel on meat finishing just outside the top placings.
Ron White weighed in best with 39lbs 4oz of carp weighing up to 10lbs using meat on the tip on peg 17. A mixed bag of 26lbs gave Bob Adamson second just ahead of Andy Smith with 25lbs of carp taken mostly on the tip.
Bob Edwards from Ellesmere Port recorded one of the best returns of the week at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall.
He bagged some great carp weighing up to 6lbs and some nice bream on meat to finish his session with a 55lbs bag.
