CHESTER Tackle Locker were celebrating after being crowned Spring League champions at Heronbrook Fishery.
The four-man team of Jamie Hughes, Gary Bough, Carl Fletcher and Chris Smith took part in a gruelling eight matches over a number of weeks to win by a stunning 26 points overall.
The title was effectively won in the last round a fortnight ago when Smith ran in individual winner on the day. However, celebrations had to be put on ice until the final round and the team did not disappoint.
The best individual weight came from Gary Skerritt, of Pickerings Garbolino, with a superb 171lbs 8oz from peg 56 of the Meadow Pool. Smith was again Tackle Locker’s top rod, taking 89lbs 10oz to win his section and gain maximum points. Bough continued the charge with a good 63lbs 2oz, with Hughes winning his section on the Canal Pool with 57lbs. Further support came from Fletcher with 34lbs 12oz from Bridge’s peg 13.
Thursday Rovers were in action on Long Island and Meadow Pools at Hampton. All the top weights were caught on Long Island which continues to fish well. Hoole’s Wendy Locker was top rod. Drawn on peg 49 of Long Island, she bagged an impressive 86lbs 2oz of carp. Chester’s Mike Cox ran in second with carp totalling 70lbs on pellet from peg four. A mixed bag of small carp, tench and crucians gave Tattenhall’s Simon Knibbs 56lbs 8oz from peg 20 an third.
Cheshire Police Angling Club held their weekly match at Ashcroft Private Fishery, Chester, on Thursday. Ellesmere Port’s Mark Greasley had to settle for fourth with a mixed bag of 27lbs taken on corn and meat.
Sunday’s open match at Leeswood was held on the Horseshoe Lake. Saltney’s Barry Davies used paste effectively, finishing second with a weight of 29lbs 7oz.
Anglers have enjoyed some good individual catches at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall. Chester’s Simon Clegg netted a lovely common carp of 12lbs and a dozen other carp weighing up to 8lbs using corn and meat. Along with a number of silvers, Clegg ended his session with a very satisfying 70lbs bag.
Gordon Jones, of Frodsham, fished steadily all day, taking roach weighing up to a 1lb and carp up to 8lbs on corn feeding pellet to net an excess of 60lb of fish.
