SANDIWAY Golf Club's assistant professional has written his name into the club's record books by becoming the first player to notch a hole-in-one at the par four 17th.
Not only did 23-year-old Adam Powell ace the 283-yard hole, his ball didn't even bounce as it flew directly in!
Powell has been the assistant for four years. He was playing in a fourball alongside England Boys star Adam Wills, Delamere's Henry Bennett and junior Tom Cartwright when he achieved the incredible feat.
'I knew the fourball playing in front of us,' said Powell. 'They knew I could reach the 17th green in one so they marked their balls and waved us down when they got to the putting surface.
'They witnessed the ball flying in directly. I couldn't see because of a large tree in the middle of the fairway.
'They were shouting and cheering as I started walking up.
'It felt great when I realised it had actually gone in because it's my first hole-in-one. I've been close lots of times but never actually in.'
What made the former Weaverham High School student's shot even more special was that it came playing into the wind!
'I used my driver and hit it really well,' explained Powell, who sits his final professional examinations next month at The Belfry.
It's the first ace on the tricky hole in the club's 85-year history.
The sport-mad Tottenham fan celebrated by buying the customary bottle of whisky in the clubhouse.
He said: 'As the assistant pro I obviously know most of the members so there has been a lot of comments. The reaction has been great and everyone wants to know about it.'
