MOTOR SPORT: CREWE rider Aaron Tilley blitzed his way to victory in the Derby Phoenix Motorcycle Club Championships, and immediately underlined his big ambitions for next season.

The 34-year-old, from Albion Street, took the Formula 600 title with a stunning display of precision riding in the final round at Mallory Park.

Now he has revealed he will compete in the MRO Championship, which is just one level below the British Superbike Championship.

A spokesperson for Tilley, who rides a Kawasaki ZXRR 600, said: 'The Championship title was still up for grabs right until the last round.

'A broken collar bone, sustained at Mallory Park back in July, had forced Aaron to miss five consecutive rounds. He had laser and magnetic therapy to help the bone heal quickly.

'Despite this setback, Aaron had accrued so many points that when he returned to the track, he was still leading the Championship.

'His lead going into the final race at Mallory Park was 10 points ahead of Nick Charlesworth. He held his nerve and the crowd went wild. Aaron was extremely pleased and will enter the MRO Championship next season.'

Tilley and Charlesworth were neck and neck in Race One at Mallory, until Charlesworth crashed out, leaving the Crewe man to notch the win. But celebrations were cut short when a complaint led to a stewards' enquiry and he was disqualified.

Starting at the back of the grid for Race Two, the title hung in the balance. But Tilley showed no nerves as he moved clinically through the field and took victory to lift the championship.

The Championship trophy will be presented at the Derby Rams Stadium on Saturday, November 26.

Tilley would like to thank K&O Motorcycles, Shaun Whalley Body Repairs, Gorsty Hill Garage, MC Signs, J Latham Construction, NS Construction, Copper Cable Company, Charlie's Tyres and Nick Morgan from MSS Kawasaki UK for their support.
