CHESTER & District FA continued their winning ways in the Cheshire County FA District Youth Cup on Sunday.

Fresh from a 5-1 thrashing of Wirral District FA, the area’s finest young footballers recorded a 4-1 victory at home to Crewe District FA.

On a heavy Boughton Hall pitch, the away side started brightly and they would have taken the lead had Joe Smith not made a brilliant stop.

But the hosts gradually took control of the contest and in the 25th minute Gareth Hughes fired them ahead with a super low shot on the turn.

Two minutes later and Chester doubled their advantage through an own goal.

By this time the hardworking Ed Behan was having an increasing influence on the match and he forced the Crewe goalkeeper into a good save with a powerful low drive.

But the visiting stopper was beaten five minutes before the break by an excellent Danny Astbury header.

Crewe refused to surrender and they reduced the arrears from the penalty spot just after the hour mark.

The three-goal gap was restored, however, by man-of-the-match Behan.

Chester’s next and final group game is against Stockport District FA on Sunday, March 17.

A place in the final of the nine-team competition, for the second season running is now a reality for last year’s runners-up Chester.
