Chester FC 1 Crewe Alex 1

NEIL Young declared himself happy with the Blues’ pre-season form so far after watching his team secure a draw with League One full-timers Crewe.

The only defeat Chester have suffered this summer was against Mansfield last week – and Young was pleased to see his players deliver a positive response on Saturday.

He said: “It got hotter as the game went on but we’re very pleased.

“I thought our shape was excellent.

“I’m very happy with what we have done so far in pre-season. The pleasing thing for me is we went to Heswall, got it down and played which is what it was about.

“Last Tuesday we played against a very fit and organised team (Mansfield), and then we’ve gone away from that and worked on things on Thursday in training, and I saw today that worked.”

The Alex took the lead on 16 minutes when John Danby brought down Ryan Colclough in the box, Harry Davis firing in the resultant penalty.

Chester looked brighter in the second half and equalised through a goalmouth scramble in the 66th minute, Danny Harrison prodding the ball home from close range.

Young added: “Craig Lindfield was lively, and Craig Mahon was getting into some nice positions, and I thought Ashley Williams was outstanding.”
