VAUXHALL Motors hope to make last weekend’s successful charity match an annual event at Rivacre Park.

The Ellesmere Port club marked their 50th anniversary by staging a game between their own 2002 FA Cup giant-killing side that knocked out Queens Park Rangers and a team of former stars from Tranmere Rovers.

Sunday’s match, which Rovers – featuring Chester FC’s assistant manager Gary Jones and chief scout Alex Hay – won 2-1, raised funds for  two charities, Diabetes UK and the Tranmere Rovers Former Players Foundation.

Motors chairman Alan Bartlam  said: “It was a truly wonderful experience to see so many old faces back at Rivacre Park. The feedback has been very positive and we will do our best to make this an annual event.

“The weather did not dampen the spirits of everyone in attendance. It  was a pleasure I look forward to repeating in the future.

“I have to thank everyone who contributed to a memorable day.”

The next big date on Vauxhall’s horizon is their Skrill North opener at home to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, August 17.
