IN THE Lookers Vauxhall League Cup third round, the biggest surprise was provided by the Red Lion from Section C. A double strike by Dave Cutress and another from Steve Brinkley gave them a win over top-division side Grosvenor (Ross Cable and Aidy Gough) by 3-2.

A second-round replay win for the fast-improving Black Dog (Adam Murdock, Mick Rogers and Marc England) gave them a 3-2 victory at Section B's Red House. England's penalty winner came late on, when he managed to put thoughts of pending fatherhood to the back of his mind to secure his side a plum draw against Section A leaders Saltney Ferry.
