A FIVE-STAR performance propelled Crewe to the top of the Midland Combination League on Saturday.
The ever-improving outfit visited their Shropshire rivals in a confident mood, and from the moment captain Jo Gurney found Tracy Sloane for the striker to make it 1-0 with a cool finish in the opening stages, the result was never in doubt.
Sloane soon doubled the advantage, arriving late to tap in the ball from just six yards, before new signing Sam Edwards ghosted in at the far post to meet Paula Lambert's cross and mark her debut with a goal.
The second half saw Crewe lone striker Deb Scotcher get her rewards for an afternoon of un-selfish graft, when she made it 4-0, and Gurney completed the rout with an unstoppable 25-yarder, before Town notched a consolation.
Crewe entertain a struggling Lichfield side at the Vagrants Sports Ground on Sunday, and they will host York City in round one of the FA Women's Cup on Sunday October 23.
