CARL Macauley has underlined his intentions to turn Vauxhall Motors into Conference North challengers with a trio of signings.
His latest acquisitions were on show for the first time on Saturday when the Motormen returned for pre-season training.
A delighted Macauley said: 'We've managed to bring a few new faces in and I am speaking to two other play-ers at the moment, so we are actively looking to freshen up the squad.'
Macauley masterminded last season's miraculous escape from relegation and he is hoping that the additions to the playing staff will help lift them into a more promising position this time out.
He said: 'The lads had a hard session on Saturday and we are all raring to go. We are looking forward to a new start and although safety has to be our priority we are aiming for a top-10 finish.'
Among the recruits on show was former Chester City star Stuart Whittaker, 31, who turned down a number of more lucrative offers to sign for Motors after his contract expired with Conference North rivals Nuneaton Borough.
Macauley said: 'Stuart is a former colleague of mine from when I was at Southport and it was really hard getting him to sign for us because he had a lot of offers from elsewhere.
'He's a talented player and the decision he made to come and play for me is a real coup for the club.'
The Motors boss has also added full back Lee Dames, 21, from Unibond Premier division club Burscough and defender Mark Williams, 30, who was a free agent after playing in
Singapore for the past two seasons.
Macauley said: 'Mark has signed on a non-contract basis and we are hoping his experience will rub off on some of the younger players.
'Lee is someone who was rising through the ranks when I was at Burscough. I watched him a few times last season and he impressed me.'
Meanwhile three players who will be plying their trade away from Rivacre Park next season are Peter Cumiskey, Phil Brazier and Wayne McDermott. All three will join former Motors boss Alvin McDonald at Unibond side Marine.
Motors kick off their pre-season campaign against Ronnie Moore's new-look Tranmere Rovers at Rivacre Park on Friday, July 14. Kick off 7pm.
