BARNTON geared up for Saturday's eagerly-awaited Soccer Company Cheshire Amateur Cup third round home tie against holders Cammell Laird with a superb 7-0 win at Crosfields to retain a six-points lead at the top of the Coors/WPRC Mid-Cheshire Leaguefirst division.
Registering their biggest away win in three seasons, Nick Armitage's team showed sparkling form to improve on a 3-3 home draw against Rylands the previous week.
Big striker Paul Hennin was their star turn with a hat-trick. Manager Armitage expects to field a full-strength team for the Town Field clash with Lairds with Dave Murray reporting fit after a knee injury.
Also in Cheshire Cup action on Saturday are second-placed Middlewich Town, who host West Cheshire League third division wooden-spoonists Grange Athletic. Terry Murphy's side are bang in form, following up a 3-0 home win over Broadheath with a 5-2 blitz of challengers Linotype at Altrincham when regular marksmen Ryan Broadhead and Ian Stanton were both on the mark.
The two remaining Mid-Cheshire League clubs in the Amateur Cup have tough away fixtures: Knutsford at Ashville and Bollington Athletic at West Kirby.
Cheadle Heath Nomads moved off the foot of the first division table on goal difference above Broadheath Central, thanks to a fighting 2-2 draw at Rylands. Division Two leaders Sidak Sports suffered a setback when their visit to Winsford United reserves was called off. The Barton Stadium pitch was considered unfit after heavy midweek use.
Sidak stay seven points clear, however, as Trafford reserves went down 2-0 at Gamesley.
Padgate St. Oswald's won their derby match against local rivals Warrington Borough with a hard-earned 2-1 home victory.
There was better news for Lostock Gralam, who patched up their vandalised pavilion at the Slow Easy Easy to stage their home fixture against Whithurch Alport. Moreover, they won 4-1 to avenge a defeat in Shropshire seven days earlier to move three points clear of bottom club Winsford United reserves.
Daten are new leaders of the reserve division after a 3-1 away win at Cheadle Heath Nomads.
The Mid-Cheshire League have been drawn against the Liverpool County Combination in the quarter-finals of the FA National League Systems Cup, following their 2-0 triumph against the West-Cheshire League.
