LEE Evans, signed earlier in the week after returning from university, turned in a man-of-the-match display.

But Gary Moore's team were not up to the test on the opening day of the West Cheshire League season.

And with only Robbie Moore and Gary Lunt missing from the squad, a better result was expected.

But in the first half, a back pass from skipper Bernie Cannon put keeper Matty Blair in trouble and the result was an easy goal for Mallaby striker Cotgreave.

At half-time, Mick Smith was introduced for the hard-working Geoff Tan. But Chemics failed to improve and Mallaby added two more goals as they ran the game in the middle of the park to punish an under-par home defence. Evans's performance was the only bright spot.

After entertaining Ellesmere Port last night, Chemics visit Cammel Lairds. Kick-off is 3pm.
