FLEETWOOD Town could be on the receiving end of a Vauxhall Motors backlash at the Motassist Arena on Saturday after relegation battlers Redditch United ended their unbeaten run on Tuesday.
The Motormen travelled to the Valley Stadium hopeful of adding a ninth game to their recent run, but it proved to be a bruising encounter against a side determined to beat the drop.
Their Worcestershire hosts scored on 13 minutes after Owen Story dispossessed Lee Dames and sent in a great cross to the near post which was headed home by Garry Hay.
United doubled their tally on 73 minutes when Story found the back of the net with a 20-yard screamer.
Carl Macauley’s side responded instantly, a deft lob from substitute Anthony Wright on 75 minutes halving the deficit, but they were unable to find an equaliser and lost 2-1.
The defeat saw Motors drop down to 10th.
On Saturday they had risen to ninth position after beating Blyth Spartans 1-0 away from home. Lee Furlong scored after just 30 seconds and the Motormen clung on.
Children will be admitted free to Saturday’s game against Fleetwood (3pm) and to Motors’ clash with Kings Lynn in a fortnight.
