WITTON Albion have looked in-house for a new team secretary and appointed director Graham Edgeley as successor to Phil Chadwick.

Edgeley, 52, a former Football League linesman and one of Mid Cheshire's best-known referees, is remaining on the Albion board and is steeped in football administration.

He has been referees' appointments secretary with the Mid Cheshire Sunday League for 25 years, assistant secretary of the league and former secretary of the Mid Cheshire League, overseeing its recent expansion to three divisions.

'I shall be relinquishing some of my other duties and getting other Wittoners involved,' he said.

Edgeley will be assisted by Pete Riley, with prominent fans Debbie Waterman and Neil Wilson also helping behind the scenes.

Albion have an associate directors' scheme for supporters who want to help in practical or administration tasks.

nWitton have been drawn at home in the first round of the Cheshire Senior Cup to Warrington Town, to be played, probably, on September 13. The club has changed its preferred home midweek night to Tuesdays to give players the extra 24 hours to shake off any injury from weekend games.

The UniBond League fixtures are due out on 8 July and Witton have requested back-to-back Christmas/ New Year fixtures with Telford United.

Training commences on June 30 and manager Gary Finley, currently on holiday, will have some new faces to strengthen a side that finished the season strongly.

One of Edgeley's first tasks is to organise a date for last season's Mid-Cheshire FA Cup final against Northwich Vics. Both clubs have agreed to play the final at Wincham Park and as followers of Vics' saga may have already noted, it will be technically a different Northwich to the one that entered the competition and beat Congleton in the semi-finals last season.
