CHESTER FC will take a strong squad to Cheadle Town for tonight’s Cheshire Senior Cup first round tie (7.45pm).

The clash with the Stockport-based North West Counties Division One outfit comes less than 72 hours before the Blues’ big FA Trophy test at home to Worksop Town on Saturday.

But Neil Young believes it will beneficial for his first-team players – who have not played for eight days – to feature this evening.

“The last time we had a bit of a break we came back and we were a bit lackadaisical so it will predominantly be a first-team squad,” said the Chester boss, who was referring to the unconvincing 2-1 win over Histon last month which came on the back of an 11-day break.

George Horan and Michael Powell serve the final games of their three-match bans, Iain Howard (calf) and Dave Hankin (ill) are unlikely to be risked, while Matty McGinn (leg) remains sidelined.

Youth team duo Sean Miller and Tom Peers could feature this evening after being named in Young’s 16-man squad.

The transfer-listed Powell, meanwhile, is expected to sign a three-month loan deal with Curzon Ashton after the game.
