Get on the board

FANS have the chance to take their place on the Chester FC board after the club gave notice its AGM will take place in September.

City Fans United members are eligible to stand for election to the board of directors – covering both the club and the CFU supporters group – providing they are aged 18 or above and meet the requirements of the FA’s Fit and Proper Person Test.

At this year’s AGM – an exact date for which is yet to be confirmed – existing elected board members Jeff Banks, Mark Howell and Jim Green will stand down by rotation and are eligible to stand for re-election.

The board have decided that four elected places will be made available to bring the number of elected officers back up to nine.

Candidates wishing to be considered for election should find a proposer and seconder to support their nomination who are also adult CFU members.

Candidates can also submit a 500-word manifesto to support their application which will be distributed to all CFU members before the AGM.

Should there be more candidates than places available an election will be held, otherwise members will be asked to ratify candidates at the AGM.

Deadline for applications is August 23.

CFU members will be sent full details of the application process by post or by email. For further information visit www.cityfansunited.com or email campbell.smith@cityfansunited.com

Show hits airwaves

THE Seals Podcast returns this weekend with a special show broadcast live on Lache FM.

The show will air at 2pm on Sunday and will be available on 87.6FM or online at www.lachefm.org.uk

Panellists, including Chester FC director Mark Howell, will give their thoughts on Neil Young’s pre-season signings as well reacting to the friendly against FC United of Manchester. A member of Young’s first-team squad will also be interviewed.

The Seals Podcast, hosted by Dan Burns, proved to be a big hit with Blues fans when it was launched online last season.

Sunday’s live show will be the first time it has been broadcast on radio, with the chance to do so coming after Lache FM were granted a restricted service licence.

Lache FM will be live on air from 7am today until Sunday evening.

Young to step down

NEIL Young is stepping down as manager of Chester FC – for one game only.

Young will hand over the reins to Andrew Donaldson for Saturday’s Supporters Direct Cup clash against FC United of Manchester after the Chester businessman won an auction to become Blues boss for a day.

Donaldson, a partner at BiG Storage, bid £1,600 at the club’s awards night in May to take his place in the dugout.

Donaldson said: “I’ve won a few pieces of silverware in business but being manager for the day in the Supporters Direct Cup takes the pressure levels on to a whole new playing field.”

Young said: “With Andrew’s bid of £1,600 contributing to the new youth team at the club I thought it was only fair that he got value for money and taking the reins against a team like FC United of Manchester will hopefully be a day to remember, particularly if we lift the trophy.”

Fans could hold key

BLUES supporters will have a vital role to play if Saturday’s Supporters Direct Cup clash between Chester FC and FC United of Manchester ends all-square after 90 minutes.

Prior to the 3pm kick-off there will be a penalty shoot-out between supporters of both sides – with the result of the spot-kicks determining which club will get its hands on the cup should the main game finish in a draw.

Chester will be represented in the shoot-out by players from fans’ forum team Deva Chat FC.

Joe makes step up

TEENAGE midfielder Joe Ormrod has already done enough in pre-season training to be promoted full-time into Neil Young’s first-team squad.

The 16-year-old, of Helsby, is the Chester FC youth team player of the year and was on the books of Portsmouth and Tranmere Rovers before signing for the Blues.

Ashton Trophy test

A TIE with Evo-Stik League Premier Division rivals Ashton United awaits Chester FC in the FA Trophy.

Neil Young’s men will welcome the Greater Manchester outfit to the Exacta Stadium on Saturday, October 22 for a first qualifying round clash (3pm).
