Chester FC manager Steve Burr and chairman Simon Olorenshaw will sit down this week to discuss what deals can be done when the transfer window opens next week.
Burr continues to lose patience with his under-performing squad and, with the Blues now seven points off the National League top half, wants to make changes in January.
The Chronicle understands he would like to bring in at least three new faces and has identified targets, but there might need to be departures before arrivals.
Heading the list of those to be moved on are likely to be out-of-favour pair George Thomson and Kane Richards while Burr could circulate the names of others he wants to offload, and be willing to cash in on defender Ben Heneghan amid interest from Football League clubs.
"I’ve got a meeting on Wednesday to see what we can do or what we can’t if it means moving one or two lads out to bring fresh faces in then I’ll have a better picture after that," said Burr following the 2-0 home defeat to Macclesfield Town on Monday .
Burr, who is approaching two years in charge, was confident the team he assembled in the summer would be able to improve on last season’s 12th place finish but some recruits have failed to live up to expectations and progress has stalled.

It was hoped Chester had started to turn a corner following a 4-1 win over Torquay United but Burr’s side were never in the game against his old club Macclesfield.
The Blues welcome Altrincham, who are on a five-game winless run, on Saturday (3pm) and Burr has hinted at changes as he strives for a sequence of positive results.
He said: "It’s the same whether you’re Chester, Altrincham or whoever you are, you’re always looking to bounce back from a defeat and we’re still looking for those consistency levels here that keep disappearing when we’re looking to kick on.
"There’s always going to be changes in your mind when you’ve had a defeat and you look at how to improve things on the park with different personnel."
