Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Torquay United leaves the Blues on 52 points, the rule of thumb managers use for survival, although six or seven points less looks like it will be enough this term.
With his side safely ensconced in mid-table, Burr has told his players he will be experimenting with different formations and rotating his squad for the remaining nine games.
George Thomson, who marked his first start with the winning goal at Plainmoor, and Kane Richards will be given more opportunities to impress as will those players whose current deals expire in the summer.
Burr said: “We said to the lads in training on Monday that we’ve got a squad of players and, depending on how we play and what we do, we’re going to be utilising different formations and different personnel in the team to keep things nice and fresh from now until the end of the season.
“I don’t like using the term ‘we are safe’ but it’s nice to be on 52 points but there are certain lads we haven’t had a good look at yet that will possibly will between now and the end of the season, hence we put George in at Torquay and he did brilliant and that’s really pleased me that he came in and got his goal.
“There will be one or two now that we look at and we’ll just try and keep everything as fresh as we can. They may have put a good performance in at Torquay but they may find themselves out of the side on Saturday because that’s we spoke about as a group to keep trying to win matches and get a good look at everybody.
Following the lacklustre display in the weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Wrexham, the win midweek has raised spirits in time for an intriguing home game with Grimsby Town on Saturday (3pm).
Paul Hurst’s team have won four on the spin and the Mariners are just five points behind leaders Bristol Rovers with a game in hand.
“I said to the boys in the dressing room at Torquay that the result set us up nicely for Saturday,” said Burr, who restored Kingsley James and Michael Kay to his starting side at Torquay.
“Grimsby are going really, really well so there should be a big crowd and they are bringing a few I believe but that win just sets up nicely now to get on a run of winning matches.”
