THE Tarporley Victoria success story continued on Saturday when they sealed promotion from Cheshire League Division Two.
Four years after entering the league, the Flacca boys will be playing Division One football next season after they won their winner-takes-all showdown at third-placed Denton Town 3-1 to ensure they go up as runners-up behind champions Lostock Gralam.
Buzzing after Richie Moss (3) and Alex Rowntree fired them to a vital 4-0 victory at Poynton two nights earlier, Vics could not have got off to a better start as Mike Parker’s throw was flicked on by Alex Moore for the in-form Moss to head home.
Steve Lloyd’s boys survived a scare on the stroke of half-time when Denton hit the bar from a free kick, but the hosts were not to be denied and they levelled the match three minutes after the restart.
Vics were now seriously under the cosh, but led by the inspirational Moore, they weathered the storm and went back in front with six minutes to spare when Moss – whose late-season goal-rush has proved crucial – conjured up a strike of real quality.
And better was to follow moments later when Andy Clacher produced an equally impressive effort to kill the contest and send the travelling Blue and Black army into rapture.
