DAVE McDermott, Syd Mort and Dave Bennett bagged the goals as unfancied Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One flag-bearers Ashville pulled off a superb 3-1 result at North West Counties Division One outfit, Silsden, in the FA Vase second qualifying round.

However although Poulton Vics scored through Ian Burrows, they were eliminated after crashing 3-1 at home to Parkgate.

On the League scene, Vauxhall Motors Reserves took over at the top of Division One, despite dropping two points following a 3-3 stalemate with Newton. Chris Killen, Dean Robinson and Dean Buckley obliged for the Motormen, with Danny Mulla (2) and Neil Miles replying.

Astute finishing from John Morgan (2) and John Lynch was the difference as Cammell Laird Reserves won 3-0 at Mallaby to move into fourth place in the table. The same two clubs meet at Kirklands tomorrow in the Pyke Cup first round (kick-off 7.30pm).

Ninety minutes failed to produce a goal between West Kirby and Merseyside Police, while a solitary strike from Craig Griffiths earned New Brighton maximum spoils against reigning champions, Heswall.

Castrol Social held out for a valuable point after finishing 0-0 with Christleton, but neighbours Elles-mere came good with Neil Shepherd and Simon Donoghue on target in the 2-1 eclipse of Runcorn Town.

Despite goals from Paul O'Donnell and James Fletcher, Capenhurst Villa passed up the chance to take over at the top of Division Two after going down 3-2 at home to Willaston (Jimmy Hild-itch, Carl Dunbar, James Clare).

Division Three leaders West Kirby Reserves consolidated their position at the top after Matty O'Shea (2), Ian Rock and an own goal secured a 4-2 result against MBNA. A goal from Jamie Pippard failed to prevent Shaftesbury going down 2-1 to Capenhurst Villa Reserves. Chris McNeill hit both goals for the winners.

Newcomers Bebington Athletic were indebted to efforts from Graham Carvell (2) and Mark Gillespie for their fine 3-1 win at Upton AA Reserves, while Paul Coventry and Mark Docherty were the respective marksmen as Bronze Social finished 1-1 with Manor Athletic.

Saturday's West Cheshire Bowl first round action saw FC Pensby and Poulton Vics Reserves live to fight another day following a 2-2 leveller. Craig Parry and Dave Swaine netted for Pensby with Phil Coffon (2) in reply for the visitors.
