WINNINGTON Park celebrated a double triumph at the weekend, winning a crucial match in the First Division relegation fight and keeping alive the possibility of a derby final against Oulton Park in the Cheshire Cup final.

They won at Cheadle Hulme in the league and then, against the odds, at Widnes in the cup to set up a home semi-final clash with Bowdon on Sunday week.

Stuart Hayes opted to field and his 2-53 were the best figures as Cheadle Hulme made 187-4.

The skipper then instructed his batsmen to be patient to take advantage of a good wicket and Aussies Aiden Baker (78) was supported by Alistair Caldwecott (44) and Jeremy Casey (25) - and Baker himself swept the winning runs, Winnington scoring 188-4.

On Sunday, Winnington sprung one of the knockout surprises of the season when their depleted team knocked Widnes out of the Cheshire Cup.

Tight bowling, even sharper fielding and perhaps a little complacency by the home team accounted for Widnes at 148.

Thanks to David Leech (67) and Paul Sinclair (48no) Winnington reached the target with an over to spare. Winnington 2nds were weakened by the promotion of three players to the 1st XI and were beaten by Cheadle Hulme and remain bottom of the league.

They managed to field 11 men and picked up maximum batting points, however.

Winnington scored 193-7 (Eioin Welch 65, Simon Newell 58), Cheadle Hulme 195-2.

Oulton Park took another stride towards the ECB Premiership title when they beat Chester Boughton Hall by seven wickets with 41 overs to spare.

They bowled out Chester for 124, with John Davies seizing a rare chance to open the bowling and returning 4-28 in 16 overs. Danny Jones's blistering pace brought him 3-50 and the visitors were 74-7.

The left-arm spin of Chris Jones (2-20) had Chester 91-9 but a late rally set a three-figure target.

Oulton needed only 22 overs to knock off 125-3, with Aussie Andy Robinson lashing an undefeated 80. What little support he needed he got from Nathan Dumelow (20).

But Oulton's dream of a treble disappeared on Friday. In the Gardner Twenty/20 Cup they were reduced to nine men because of work commitments and were beaten by Neston, who scored 124 to Oulton's 112.

Oulton play Macclesfield at home in the semi-final of the Cheshire Cup on August 28.

Ric Moore took 2-32 and scored 60 for Oulton 2nds' in their victory at Congleton. In second place, they host lead-ers Birkenhead Park on Saturday. Congleton 214-7, Oulton 215-2 (Simon Torlop 46no, Jonny Kettle 45).

Oulton Park 3rds scored 262-5 (Stuart Robinson 77no) to beat Poynton 3rds who were dismissed for 80 (Stuart Macleod 4-15).

Middlewich rattled up their best County League score, 305-6, but could not bowl out Burnage and re-main deep in relegation trouble.

Steve Parry hit 82 and Matthew Dawson 51, but Burnage made a valiant attempt at the target before petering out at 265-8.
