SAUGHALL produced a fabulous all-round performance to topple Cheshire Alliance Division Two leaders Holmes Chapel in convincing fashion.

Despite heavy overnight rain, the visitors opted to bat first and were soon labouring at 17-4.

Lawrence Gotts took 3-31, including a laser-guided yorker, while a tremendous off-cutter was the highlight of Dipak Jena’s 2-30.

In a polished performance with the ball, there were also excellent run-outs provided by Martin Huxley and Pete Tunnicliffe as Holmes Chapel were bowled out for just 112.

Whereas the visitors struggled with the bat, Saughall were in dominant mood, scoring freely with one eye on the unsettled weather.

Mike Rowson plundered six sixes in a swashbuckling 49 as Saughall reached 116-5 with a massive 34 overs to spare.

They picked up 25 points to move within just four points of Holmes Chapel.

Skipper Chris Andrews said: “We were fantastic in all departments, despite missing key players. We have three matches left and two wins could be enough to seal promotion.”

Saughall 2nds were beaten at promotion chasing Trinity in Division Five, bowled out for 80 in reply to 132.

Shaun Watts took three wickets for the Chester side.
