SAUGHALL were denied by the rain when they seemed to be heading for victory against Rostherne in the Cheshire Alliance Division Two.

With poor weather forecast, skipper Chris Andrews lost the toss and Saughall were made to field.

Rostherne lost an early wicket but recovered to post 182ao (Mandeep Singh 1-19, Dipak Jena 2-22, Chris Andrews 4-38).

Sensing the weather was against them Saughall raced out of the blocks after tea.

Martin Huxley made 72 in double-quick time including 14 boundaries before he was yorked in the 18th over.

James Huxley was 39no when the heavy rain came, ending the game with Saughall on 119-2.

Division Two leaders Frodsham were saved from a big defeat at Ellesmere Port by the rain.

Relegation battlers Port scored 241-6 and were destroying Frodsham’s batting line-up when rain intervened, Frodsham having made 88-4.

In Division Three Capenhurst drew at home to Kerridge afer Rain also stopped their game.

The visitors were bowled out for 193 (N Healing 7-44, P Mayall 3-19).

Rain intervened when Capenhurst had made 65-3.
