CHESTER County Officers warmed up for the new season with victory in a friendly at Port Sunlight on Sunday.
The visitors, who won promotion to Division Two of the Meller Braggins League last season, rattled up 176, Chris Wright leading the way with a tremendous 50, supported by Mike Rowlands (31) and Roger Watt (21).
Then it was the bowlers’ turn to shine as Graham Dodd (3-28) and James Moss (3-7) helped dismiss Port for 83ao.
Last year’s promotion-winning side, led by Mike Clarke, is still together.
Groundsman Steve Johnson, who also leads the club’s bowling attack, has raised the standard of the wicket to second best in the 36-club league.
Indian paceman Vamshidhar Parvathaneni is available when work permits.
There was a promotion ‘one-two’ for local sides last season, with BUNBURY finishing second behind CCO in Division Three.
They too have made the step up to Division Two, where they will rub shoulders with KINGSLEY.
The men from The Croft finished clear of the relegation drop spots last year and will be looking to climb higher up the table in 2012.
CHOLMONDELEY are sure to be among the promotion favourites.
They were in the hunt for much of the last campaign but ultimately had to settle for a fourth-placed finish.
