A CHESTER Boughton Hall player carried off one of the major prizes at the Cheshire County League’s annual presentation dinner.

Hall’s batting sensation Warren Goodwin was named as the Premier Division player of the year, making him only the second player in league history to retain the trophy.

He shares a place in the record books with Bowdon’s Gary Yates, a winner in 2003 and 2004.

Goodwin won the player of the year award – the Keith Belfield Memorial Trophy – on the strength of his free-scoring performances through the summer, winning the most votes from fellow clubs.

The South Africa-born ace enjoyed a sensational spell in July and August, scoring seven centuries in 24 days for Boughton Hall and Lancashire 2nds, topping 1,000 league runs for the second successive season and helping his club reach the semi-finals of the Cockspur Twenty20 Cup.

Nantwich’s Jimmy Warrington and Lou Vincent were second and third respectively in the voting.

The awards night was held at Mere Golf & Country Club on Friday.

Former Glamorgan and England cricketer Robert Croft was the guest speaker and he addressed an audience of 280 players, sponsors, guests and league officers.
