LAST week was a busy one for Chester Boughton Hall as first they hosted a special lunch and cricket match to celebrate 100 years of Cheshire CCC and followed that up with a ‘Test match’ lunch with Graeme Fowler as guest speaker.
Cheshire's centenary celebrations included the striking of a specially-made tie and souvenir brochure, while former all-rounder Bob Cooke entertained a crowd of around 120 with memories of his time with the club. The game saw Cheshire come off second best to an MCCA XI, but a decent-sized crowd enjoyed some good cricket in the sunshine.
‘Foxy’ Fowler, now chief coach at Durham University, entertained his audience regally the following day as he recounted his time with Lancashire and England and gave an insight into his work with Sky and the BBC on Test Match Special.
Cheshire, meanwhile, continue their Minor Counties Championship campaign on Sunday by welcoming Dorset to Alderley Edge CC (11am). After their rain-ravaged draw against Herefordshire at Nantwich CC, Andy Hall’s side have slipped to third in the Western Division, behind Cornwall and Dorset.
Cheshire have named an unchanged team for the three-day clash, which continues on Monday and Tuesday, so that means starting places for Hall’s Warren Goodwin and Oulton Park trio Rick Moore, Ben Spendlove and Nathan Dumelow.
