Former England bowler Andy Caddick’s visit to Ellesmere Port proved a big hit with cricket fans.

Caddick attended an Ashes Breakfast at Groves Sports & Social Club last Friday.

The all-day event was arranged by Groves Cricket Club.

As well as watching day two of the England v Australia Test from Lord’s on a big screen, those present were treated to expert insight from Caddick.

The former Somerset man, who played in 62 Tests for England between 1993 and 2003, took part in an ‘after-dinner’ talk and also a question-and-answer session.

Groves’ first-team skipper Mike Caulfield said: “It was great day and we couldn’t have asked for a better day’s cricket, with nearly 300 runs and 16 wickets falling.

“Andy Caddick spent the whole day with us and gave an interesting insight into the life of a past and a present Test cricketer. The feedback we’ve had from those who came has been really positive and have asked about future days like this.

“All in all it was a brilliant day, and we’ve already started making plans for a similar event next year.”
