WIDNES became the first club to reach the Jaguar House Cheshire Cup semi-finals when they scored a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Birken-head Park at Beaconsfield Road on Sunday.
Park were restricted to a modest 128-8 in their 45 overs, John Costain top-scoring with 39 against Steve Titchard 4-39. Widnes knocked off the runs in 30 overs, Tony Hurdley 40 not out, James McCoy 34.
The remaining quarterfinals are Oxton v Hyde; Bowdon v Cheadle Hulme (both on Sunday, July 25); Neston v Chester Boughton Hall (Sunday, August 1).
In the semi-final Widnes will host the winners of Oxton or Hyde, while Neston or Chester will be at home to holders Bowdon or Cheadle Hulme, both games on Sunday, August 15.
THREE of the four clubs through to the semi-finals of the Jaguar House Cheshire Shield are from the Murray Smith Accountants Cheshire County League following Sunday's third round ties. Results: Heaton Mersey 160 won by 58 runs against Parkfield Liscard 102; Middlewich 209-7 (Steven Parry 53, Simon Nutting 38) won by 85 runs against Alder-ley Park 124 (Gavin Tomlinson 4-30); Trafford 158 (Simon Warner 100, Kevin Waterhouse 3-32, Adrian Palazzo 3-38) lost by four wickets to Bollington 160 (Raj Sen 62not out); Malpas v Ashton on Mersey was postponed to Sunday, July 25.
Semi-final draw (Sunday, August 8): Heaton Mersey v Bollington; Middlewich (holders) v Malpas or Ashton on Mersey.
WINNINGTON Park pulled off a surprise five-wicket win at Hyde in the 2nd round of the Cheshire County League's Fred Graham Trophy, while Cheadle Hulme beat Grappenhall by eight wickets.
