Cheshire Phoenix booked their place in the last eight of the BBL Cup after claiming a 97-82 victory at Manchester Giants on Sunday (October 9).
After earning their first win of the season the weekend before, the Nix made it two on the spin with a comfortable away success.
Jamell Anderson played the full 40 minutes and contributed a game-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting, with Earl Brown weighing in with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Phoenix head coach Colin O’Reilly handed a debut off the bench to British forward Raheem May-Thompson and he made his presence felt with a haul of 13 points in an eye-catching display.
May-Thompson was released by BBL rivals Leicester Riders last week having joined the reigning league champions in 2015 following a successful stint in NBL Division One.
The Giants were aiming to bounce back from Friday’s loss in Sheffield and they made a strong start in a competitive opening period, where they fell behind by three.
Cheshire took over in the second and started with an 11-0 run to pull clear. The visitors poured in 30 points in the quarter to establish a commanding 17-point advantage at the break.
Back-to-back triples from Josh Wilcher and Anderson extended the gap early in the third and Cheshire moved to 24 points clear by the end of the period.
The Giants rallied to close to within 15 at 80-65 but the damage had been done and Cheshire, who host Leicester Riders on Sunday (5.30pm), secured a comfortable win.
Marcel Mosley, who drained 30 points in the league triumph at Leeds Force seven days previously, hit 12 points from the bench in the win while Kaj-Bjorn Sherman was another player to reach double figures for the visitors as he notched 10 points.
Holders Newcastle Eagles await Phoenix at Sport Central in the quarter final.
