BIG Storage Cheshire Jets have a double defeat to get out of their system when they go in search of league and cup success this weekend.
Their good early-season progress was checked by surprise losses to Sheffield and Worthing last weekend, but the games keep coming thick and fast and Jets have had little time to dwell on their setback.
Paul Smith’s side take on reigning champions Guildford Heat at the Spectrum tomorrow (7pm) and then host London Capital in the BBL Cup on Sunday (5.30pm).
Smith admits London are an unknown quantity.
“I don’t who they’ll have playing for them,” said the Jets chief. “I watched them at Leicester on the opening weekend, and after they got through the first quarter, they played some good ball.
“They worked hard, and whoever they put on the floor, they’ll make us work and we’ll treat them with respect.
“It’s going to be very, very tough. It’s an important game for us because we want to stay in the Cup and give ourselves a chance of winning something.”
Capital go into the game on a high after recording a home win against Guildford last week.
Coach Milek Jivens is bracing his team for a tough test at the Northgate Arena.
He said: “Shawn Myers and Chez Marks seem to be the two danger men for Jets. We have to make sure we pay close attention to these two players and make them earn every point. I have not seen much of Cheshire, but I do know they play a similar style as we do so it should be interesting.”
Jets boss Smith wants his team to get back in the winning habit – starting tomorrow at Guildford.
“Both games were really frustrating last weekend,” he said. “We have to start focusing on playing defence, and individuals need to take responsibility for that. We have to up our work-rate in training, and improve in many areas.”
Smith expects Heat captain Mike Martin to be the danger man tomorrow.
He said: “Mike is always the heart and soul of the team. He brings them energy, and is always active on the boards.”
Heat won all three meetings between the sides in the BBL Championship last season.
