A DOUBLE defeat at the weekend looks to have caused irreparable damage to the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets’ BBL Championship play-off hopes.
Paul Smith’s men are now six points away from the play-off zone – but a late assault on the top eight looks unlikely as there are only four fixtures of the regular season remaining, leaving eight points to play for.
Jets were beaten 90-75 away to Plymouth Raiders last Friday (March 28) before suffering a last-gasp 88-82 defeat at home to Guildford Heat on Sunday (March 30).
Jets’ Jayson Obazuaye led all scorers with 24 as the home side stayed close to the Heat all night.
By the end of the third quarter, the hosts held a 67-64 lead – setting up a tense final stanza.
Jets led until the final 90 seconds, when a 7-0 tear from the Heat secured a last-gasp triumph.
In Plymouth last Friday, Jets had taken an early 25-16 lead off the back of a 17-12 burst to close out the first period.
The Raiders closed the gap to three points by half time and went on to stamp their authority on the contest in the second half, opening the game up with a 12-6 burst in the final quarter.
Trey Moore led the Jets’ scoring with 23.
