Chester continued their winning streak on Saturday (November 9), notching up a third victory on the bounce in Division One of the North Men’s League.
They triumphed 6-4 over Preston 2nds and are now fifth in the table.
Brett Dempster netted a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Tom Warburton (2) and Paul Cieplak.
Chester travel to second- placed Sheffield Hallam 2nds this Saturday.
Chester’s Ladies drew 1-1 at Didsbury Northern in a cagey encounter.
Nia Hughes netted for the visitors to keep her fine run of goalscoring form going, although it was not enough for the win as Didsbury equalised before the final whistle.
The next day, Chester took on Timperley in the Cheshire Cup and recorded a 4-1 win. They will face Bowdon in the next round.
Deeside Ramblers fielded an impressive 18 teams over the course of the weekend, including men’s, ladies, veterans and junior sides.
Star performers were the men’s 3rds, who hammered Northop Hall 9-0 with Richard Jones bagging three goals and skipper Piers Fielding adding two more. Jack Hill, Andy Kirk and Frazer Smellie were also among the scorers.
The men’s first team took on league leaders Durham University and led 2-0 at one stage, but the students hit back and scored three times to seal the win. Geoff Price was named man-of-the- match.
The under 14s were in action in the preliminary round of the National Cup and beat Wirral-based Oxton 8-1. Will Dodd-Moore helped himself to four goals with Ben Mawdsley claiming a brace. Harry Armitage was also on target and an own goal completed the scoring.
The Ladies drew 1-1 with Harrogate, Lucy Armitage scoring, and also knocked Brooklands out of the Cheshire Cup second round. Alice Pymm and Orla Monk netted.
The Ladies 2nds drew 1-1 with a strong Alderley Edge side while the 3rds went down 4-1 to Bebington.
Kate Fearnall got the Ramblers goal and Becky Cooke was named player-of-the- match.
