A HIGH-FLYING Wrexham science graduate has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy.

Aarti Sharma, of Acrefair, has completed her PhD in Biochemistry at NEWI and will now continue her research into arthritis as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Keele University, which was the source of her PhD.

The 27-year-old, who lives on Llangollen Road, was a star pupil at Ysgol Acrefair and Ysgol Rhiwabon before gaining a degree in biology at NEWI.

Aarti is the middle daughter of Vijay and Om Sharma, who own a newsagent's and convenience store in Acrefair.

Their other daughters, Rashmi, 25, and Kirti, 30, are also high achievers who have made their parents proud.

Rashmi is currently studying a physiotherapy degree at Manchester University, while Kirti is doing a PhD in Volcanology at the Open University in Milton Keynes.

Aarti's father, Vijay, said they all celebrated over a quiet family meal.

'We are so pleased. She has done very well and worked very hard to get where she is,' he said.
