A CLUB doorman from Wrexham has admitted biting off part of a customer's ear.

Anthony Michael Hayes, of Stanley Grove, Wrexham, admitted a wounding charge following an incident at Chicago Rock on December 22.

Judge John Rogers QC, sitting at Mold Crown Court, said that his basis of plea showed that during a drunken brawl, the defendant had taken advantage of it to bite off part of the ear of the complainant.

The 48-year-old, a former soldier said to be suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome, denied a more serious charge of wounding Gregory Kenneth Roberts with intent, which was accepted by the prosecution.

But Hayes admitted wounding Mr Roberts and the judge said that while his guilty plea would make a very real difference to the sentence he would receive.

He added: “It is highly likely that you will face a custodial sentence.”

The judge last Friday agreed to adjourn sentence until May because the defendant had a pre-booked holiday since last year at the end of May.
