A GREAT Sutton woman charged with attacking a pensioner as he picked up his morning newspaper has been committed to the crown court.

Defendant Greta Reid, 21, is charged with assaulting John Lee, 72, during an incident outside Broughton Post Office on May 24.

Magistrates previously declined jurisdiction and ruled that her case must be tried at Mold Crown Court.

Reid of Hope Farm Precinct was bailed at Flintshire magistrates’ court on Thursday and ordered not to enter Broughton in the meantime.

The prosecution allege that it was an unprovoked assault but Reid claims that she acted in self-defence.

She will appear at the crown court next month.
