POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a young woman suffered serious facial injuries in an attack outside a pub in Whitby.

The 25-year-old victim was struck while she was in the seating area of the Woodlands shortly after 10pm on Saturday.

Police, who cordoned off the scene following the incident, are still trying to establish what object was used in the attack.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “The outside seating area adjacent to the Whitby Road entrance to the pub was very busy with customers at the time.

“The young woman attacked was wearing a yellow and white dress.

“She suffered serious facial injuries requiring surgery and is currently recovering in hospital.”

A 34-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man, who are both from the area, have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and released on bail until September 12 pending further inquiries.
