Droylsden 1 Northwich Vics 3
Vics grabbed the survival initiative on Tuesday.
While they came from behind to dismiss doomed Droylsden, rivals Farlsey, Stafford and Weymouth were all losing while Altrincham just picked up a single home point.
Vics are going into the run-in as the team in goalscoring form.
For the second match running they were 3-1 up against 10 men, but this time they were in no mood for a slip up and an even bigger victory seemed more likely.
But the Bloods drew first blood, Mike Welch making a reckless tackle on former Vics man Jamie Maguire and Steve Daly scoring from the spot.
With Darryn Stamp and Lee Steele forming an experienced attack, Vics were worthy of an equaliser before the break and both men missed chances.
But all their worries melted away in the second half. Cortez Belle and Josh Wilson paved the way for Steele’s firmly driven first goal in 57 minutes.
Joel Byrom’s 64th minute daisy cutter travelled unerringly to the bottom corner of the net from 25 yards and Steele claimed his second goal in the 75th minute, with the aid of a generous deflection from Karl Munroe.
Vics: Tynan’ Bowler, Welch, Belle, Brown; Byrne (Horrocks 82), Wilson, Byrom’s, Mullan (Hanley 89); Steele, Stamp (Burns 71).
