THIRTY-SOMETHINGS who grew up in and around Northwich are invited to recall the disco dancing days of their youth and go ‘Back to the Morg’.
‘The Morg’ was the nickname bestowed on Northwich Memorial Hall during its glory days in the sixties when the Beatles came to town.
And the moniker was still firmly in place during the 1980s when the police held discos on Wednesday nights for under 18s in the local area. Entrance was 50p.
The ‘Back to the Morg’ night has been inspired by a Facebook group set up by Kingsmead resident Kirstie James to bring together the people who attended the discos. The group currently has more than 380 members and is growing daily.
Kirstie said: “I set up the Facebook group to reunite those of us who have very fond memories of the discos, and I’m really excited that the ‘back to the Morg’ night is actually happening.
“We would really like people to join the Facebook group and post suggestions about the night – from what music to play to which drinks should be on sale.”
‘Back to the Morg’ takes place on 29 August, from 8pm until late. Tickets priced £6 are available online at www.valeroyal.gov.uk and can also be booked on 01606 867539 or by calling the Memorial Hall on 01606 814640.
You can find out more and keep up-to-date with plans for the night by joining the Facebook group, but you don’t have to be a member of the group to attend.
