A YOUNG musician has just won her first major piano competition.
Katy Hellen, 16, from Bwlchgwyn, competed in the Wrexham Youth Music Festival Under 17 Pianoforte Class and walked away with the top prize.
The pupil of Castell Alun, Hope, performed The Butterfly by Grieg during the competition and again during the winners' evening concert, to high acclaim.
Overjoyed with her performance, Katy said: 'I'd love to follow a career in music, perhaps as a music therapist, using the skills I am developing to care for people who are unwell. I am so grateful to the school for its support and also my fantastic piano teacher, Ruth Fennell.'
