LEIGHTON Hospital has confirmed it has made plans to deal with a possible swine flu epidemic.
Medical director Dr Paul Dodds, of the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which covers Leighton, said: “The trust has in place a comprehensive flu plan and is working closely with NHS Western Cheshire, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Department of Health to ensure that this plan can be put into action if necessary.
“Anyone who has recently travelled to the affected areas and is experiencing influenza-like illness should stay at home to limit contact with others and seek medical advice by phone from their GP or NHS Direct.”
Guidance issued by the Health Protection Agency includes:
Staying at home if you have symptoms of the flu.
Covering the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible.
Maintaining good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently.
