YEAR 10 and 11 students at Cheshire Oaks High School are inspiring others to get active by becoming community sports leaders.

More than 20 pupils attended the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership course during October half-term.

The award is a nationally recognised qualification that helps young people over the age of 14 to develop their leadership skills including communication, organisation and motivation.

Co-ordinator Emma Bolton said: “The course was a lot of fun and offered students an insight into the enjoyment of sports leadership.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for students with a passion for sports to also develop their personal and social education.”

Once the students pass their final assessment, they will use the skills learnt to organise and lead sporting activities in the community through the School Sports Partnership.

Miss Bolton added: “The partnership is part of the development plan objectives that derive from our sports college status which will create opportunities for secondary and primary school children to participate in sports activities organised by our new leaders.”

Students who took part in the last course were Hayley Barnett, Carl Brown, Lauren Caldwell, Steven Carr, Liam Cowan, Laura Davies, Steph Horton, Phil Howgate, Josh Kavanagh, Kyle McHugh and Jodie Moore.

Also taking part were Joe Pearce, Natalie Pues, Jonathan Revell, Daniel Revill, Cleo Roberts, Jake Roberts, Josh Robinson, James Tempest, Steven Thomas, Joe Tyrell and Daniel Wickham.

There will be further opportunities for students aged 14-19 to attend Level 1 and Level 2 Sports Leadership Award courses during February half-term.

There will also be other sports specific courses on offer, including rugby, football, basketball and dance.
