PUPILS of Sutton Green Primary School are celebrating after their short film reached the final of the Co-operative Young People’s Film Festival.

Children from Years 4-6 devised, performed and filmed a four-minute comedy film called Soldier’s Census, which will be shown at the festival in October.

The Co-operative Young Film Maker’s Festival is an annual event at the National Media Museum in Bradford celebrating the outstanding film work created by young people aged seven-18 throughout the country.

Pupils will have the opportunity to chat to professional film directors and take part in acting, directing and film production workshops throughout the day.

Co-director and deputy headteacher Rick Smith said: “The films were designed to be a way of getting as many of the junior children in the play as possible.

“With more than 120 pupils in the juniors it was a hard task to get them all involved with one play and make they feel that they have all participated.

“The solution was for the children to create short films as comedy ‘inserts’ to the play.

“The films proved a huge hit with the parents so we thought why not try sending them off to the prestigious Co-operative Young Film Maker’s Competition.”

Headteacher Michael Forber added: “This is a tremendous honour for the pupils and staff at Sutton Green. The pupils will be delighted to see their winning film on the big screen.”
