LITERARY enthusiasts and bookworms are counting down to this year’s Chester Literature festival.
The festival, sponsored by Shell, takes place from Monday, October 18, to Sunday, October 31.
There are 80 events in the programme ranging from evening author events with some well-known faces, new and sequel writers at lunch time, workshops, educational events and a new children’s festival, GobbleDEEbook.
Shell PR manager Ed Brady said: “The Shell Chester Literature Festival is an integral part of the city’s artistic and cultural programme and we are pleased to sponsor the festival for the third year and ensure through our support that the programme continues to attract a wide audience.”
Familiar faces include former government spin doctor Alistair Campbell, the Culture Show’s presenter Mark Kemode, controversial scouse comedian Alexei Sayle And the Culture Show’s Andrew Graham-Dixon.
Others include Simon Armitage, one of the UK’s best-loved poets, and Sue Birtwhistle, co-creator of BBC’s Cranford.
This year’s festival also celebrates the spoken word with plays and storytelling including best-selling novelist Sarah Dunant, the adaptation of Sacred Hearts set to music performed by Musica Secreta and Rhona McCullough returns for her third year and new one woman show The Tale of Beatrix Potter.
