STAFF and students at Ysgol Dinas Brân are celebrating their achievement in gaining the prestigious Green Flag Award.

The school’s thriving Eco-Council, with more than 100 student members, together with their link teachers, had previously achieved the bronze and silver awards for their efforts in eco-awareness.

Recycling facilities have been secured on-site and all new electronic equipment purchased is now energy efficient.

The school is now focused on creating opportunities to recycle. A fully operational greenhouse has even been constructed from the school’s recycled plastic bottles. And a full energy audit of the school has been conducted through a partnership with the HSBC Bank and the Marches Energy Agency.

The school was the first in Wales to secure the International Schools Award. The school has also applied for Fairtrade status.

Now funding is being sought to create an outdoor classroom and to clear an area of wasteland to establish an imaginative picnic and seating area.
